You know what’s the worst thing
Is it about the economy?
Yeah, that too.
But I assume you have something else to tell, go ahead
Coming in to work when you’re sick
You could take a sick leave
Of course, I can
But Air India employees can’t apparently
Yeah, Air India employees got fired because they called in sick
Well, it does raise suspicion when 230 employees call in sick
TWO HUNDRED? ON THE SAME DAY?
Yeah. Go figure.
Hello, I’m Deepshikha Rahi
And I’m Kshitij Bhargava, Welcome to ETs Daily Rundown
What could be even worse than that!
The economy (pause) GDP forecasts depict worrisome figures.
Both Nomura and SBI have pegged the second quarter GDP growth at 4.2%, way below the erstwhile 5% in the first quarter of the current fiscal.
Weren’t we hoping for a revival anytime sooner?
Seems like a distant dream. Two important indicators- the core sector and the IIP have contracted consecutively for two months straight.
Also, there is a shrink in the government’s fleet of electric cars
But didn’t they close the tender for 10,000 cars ?
They did but now the state-owned Energy Efficiency Services Limited’s (EESL) move to electrify government employees’ car fleet ended with procurement of just 3,000 cars
Also, no compensation for TATA Motors or Mahindra & Mahindra who were given the collective tenders.
Meanwhile, there’s a new payments system in town
Facebook is launching Facebook Pay in the States
But not in India, yet
Of course, they are already in hot water over the spying scandal
Don’t want to go making that worse
Plus, we have fan favourite GPay here
Listen, I’m done with Gpay, thing won’t give me scratch cards anymore.
At least you’re getting them here, in Tamil Nadu GPay scratch cards are banned
Because the state says they are a form of lottery
And, lottery, as you know is not legal.
Guess I’m never moving to Chennai, then.
Better than being in Mumbai though
Of course, all that political drama ain’t good for me
Now that the President’s rule has been imposed in the State
With the NCP-Congress-ShivSena faction unable to decide on a power sharing scheme
Well, the Sena want their poster boy - Aditya Thackrey - in the hot seat
But, obviously it’s not easy to put a first time politician there without ruffling some feathers
Of course. The recent meeting between Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray and Balasaheb Thorat, the Maharashtra congress chief along with other prominent leaders was a fruitful one, so they say.
While Uddhav Thackeray said the meeting was progressing in ‘the right direction’, Balasaheb Thorat said the meeting itself was a positive development.
In another news, the Supreme Court verdict disqualified the 17 Congress-JDS MLAs over their absence and resignation that had earlier led to the fall of Congress-JD(S) coalition government. However it has allowed them to fight the bypolls in December.
The markets have sulked today with SENSEX dropping 229 points while NIFTY stood at 11, 840 down by 73 points.
