    Dev Sarma had earlier worked in the NRC directorate. He involved in the initial works of NRC which started in 2013. Later he moved out of NRC directorate in 2016. The NRC coordinator is the commissioner level post. Sarma was working as secretary in department of Finance and Urban development, government of Assam.

    “We will not accept the Citizenship Amendment bill. The Centre must not consider the northeast as a dumping ground for illegal immigrants. The bill is unconstitutional, illegal and anti-indigenous. We will not accept it under any circumstance," said Aasu chief adviser Samujjal Bhattacharyya.
