The four-year course was till now open only to students who finished Class XII with science. They had to then clear a competitive entrance test. If the draft comes into effect, all Class XII pass-outs with a score of at least 45% would be eligible to appear for the entrance test to join the professional course in colleges across India.
The overseas affairs ministry, which recently shared the data on Indians studying in various corners of the world, found that the total number of students who have travelled out for a foreign education rose from 5.7 lakh students in 2016 to over 8 lakh in 2018. The numbers, though, could be higher as data from several countries was being compiled when the statistics were provided.
Next To China, India moves up two ranks from 2012 in the number of international schools it hosts. The middle-class in India is largely opting for imported curricula for reasons ranging from giving their children a shot at the Ivies and Oxbridge to social prestige. This has led to raising the count of international schools in the country.
Only 45% of Indian students who took GMAT sent their scores to US business schools this year, which is down from 57% in 2015. The students who did not apply had various reasons ranging from the political scenario in the US to their own safety reasons.
Bucking the upward trend were Maharashtra, where the pass rate plummeted by 12.3%, and Madhya Pradesh, where it dropped by 4.7%.
