Potato prices usually plummet in India by January as fresh arrivals gather pace in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, West Bengal and Haryana. Retail prices of potato are Rs 20-30 per kg currently in different parts of the country due to 60-70% above normal rainfall which has slowed crop arrivals in mandis.

India is the largest exporter of basmati rice and its price is a function of global trade. A decline of 10% in price was recorded in the first five months of the current financial year. During the period, the country exported 1.66 million tonnes of basmati compared with 1.85 million tonnes in the same period last year.
