The survivor’s father, an ironsmith belonging to the Lohar community, told ET how the local police of Bihar village in Unnao district were callous whenever his daughter had approached them for help after being raped last year. The father and sister-in-law of the deceased have spoken of a caste power play at work as both the key accused were Brahmins.
The report of the victim’s death add to a string of tragic events that have unfolded since last week beginning from the rape and murder of a 26-year old veterinarian in Hyderabad- an act of horror that caused wide outrage across the country.

The young girl from Unnao was raped last year in December by Shivam Trivedi and his friend Shubham. After being released on bail last week, Trivedi, along with his friend caught the victim off guard when she was on her way to Raibareli on Thursday morning to present herself in the local court.
