Easing global crude oil prices lifted mood and the market remained in the green for much of the day.
Sensex jumped over 450 points, while Nifty touched 10,290 in early deals.
BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices fell by 0.89 per cent and 1.21 per cent, respectively.
Sensex and Nifty remained in the negative territory throughout the day.
On the macroeconomic front, oil prices steadied in the international market.
Relative Strength Index (RSI) on Monday showed 74 stocks in the oversold zone on the BSE.
A fresh spell of buying across select bank and financial stocks lifted the market.
Among sectoral indices on BSE, realty, teck, IT and telecom were trading in the red.
ITC, Kotak Bank, YES Bank, Maruti, Airtel and Wipro will release their Q2 numbers the week.
The selloff was triggered by weakness in NBFC stocks.
