BJP has begun the process under which each set of papers will be signed by 60 MPs and MLAs as proposers and another 60 as seconders.
In Kovind, Modi and Shah have found a man who fits all the demands of RSS. He is a Dalit who has a saffron hue. He is also well-read and non-controversial leader.
Kovind, 71, was born in Derapur, Kanpur Dehat. He had cracked the UPSC examinations in his third attempt, but did not join as he qualified for one of the Allied services.
BJP-led NDA is close to a majority in presidential polls and with the support of a few regional parties, may easily cross the finishing line.
Even as BJP is holding deliberations with its allies and other parties, it appears to have mustered the requisite numbers.
