MUMBAI: Austrian bikemaker KTM, in which Bajaj Auto holds a stake, on Thursday announced a joint venture with Spanish brand GasGas to co-develop motorcycles and electric vehicles in Spain.

“It is intended that GasGas will be added, alongside KTM and Husqvarna motorcycles & e-bikes as the third brand to the strong sales network of the KTM Industries group,” the company said.

In India, Bajaj manufactures and markets KTM motorcycles and is also in the process of launching the Husqvarna brand later this year.

Earlier, Stefan Pierer, the chief executive of KTM, had also expressed interest in buying the Italian motorcycle brand Ducati, which is currently owned by the Volkswagen Group.

KTM’s deal with Black Toro Capital, the owner of GasGas Motorcycles, is still subject to antitrust authorities’ approval, the company said.
