Tata Group launches Nexon EV and electric vehicle ecosystem

Tata Group has launched the Tata Nexon EV as well as an electric vehicle ecosystem, called the Tata UniEVerse. The ecosystem comprises public charging stations, battery manufacturing facility, sales network and financing. Tata Power and to install 300 public fast chargers across the country by March 2020 and then take it up to 650 by March 2021.

Mumbai: The Tata Group of companies on Tuesday launched the Tata Nexon EV as well as an electric vehicle ecosystem comprising public charging stations, battery manufacturing facility, sales network and financing.

The electric SUV will cost Rs 13,99,000 for the base variant, while the higher-end variant will cost Rs 15,99,000.

The EV ecosystem, called the Tata UniEVerse, comprises participation from multiple Tata Group companies, including Tata Power, Tata Chemicals, Tata AutoComp, Tata Motors Finance, and Croma.

"The shift to EVs us not just a trend but an imperative from the Indian perspective," said Tata Group Chairman N Chandrasekaran.

Tata Power and to install 300 public fast chargers across the country by March 2020 and then take it up to 650 by March 2021.

The battery pack will be manufactured by Tata AutoComp while the battery cells will be made by Tata Chemicals.

Select Croma outlets will handle sales for the car in addition to Tata Motors dealerships.

Tata Motors plans to launch four more electric cars over the next 24 months, Chandrasekaran said.

"Because the ecosystem is there, it is going to be faster (to launch the upcoming vehicles) than in the past."
