With many new e-cars lined up in next 3 years, India's electric dream all set to take off

Nearly a dozen of the coming vehicles are in the affordable segment costing less than Rs 10 lakh. This massive vehicle electrification drive is being led by Indian vehicle makers — Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra — who will be launching half of these models with an eye on addressing the local market needs in terms of range and affordability.

NEW DELHI: India’s e-vehicle dream is finally set to take off. Automakers are planning 15-20 new electric vehicles for launch in the next three years, with nearly a dozen of those in the affordable segment costing less than Rs 10 lakh. This massive vehicle electrification drive is being led by Indian vehicle makers — Tata Motors and Mahindra &
to EV. Petrol prices in India are among the highest in the major economies of the world. Interestingly, some rural auto dealers are witnessing a substantial rise in enquiries for EVs, as electricity cost in agriculture supplies is either highly subsidised or free, thus it could potentially bring down the daily running cost of the vehicle to almost nil.
