Incidentally, the bank’s mobile application had witnessed a similar crash around the same time last year when a new version of the application couldn’t take the end of the month payday traffic. Both, the website and the application, remained down till the time of going to press with customers attempting to login to their accounts being shown a ‘server down due to heavy traffic’ message.
The bank said in a statement said that it is working to bring the servers back up.
“Due to a technical glitch, some of our customers have been having trouble logging into our NetBanking and MobileBanking App. Our experts are working on it on top priority, and we’re confident we’ll be able to restore services shortly,” HDFC Bank tweeted, asking the customers to not panic. “While we deeply regret the inconvenience caused, there’s no cause for undue concern.”
Thousands of customers took to Twitter throughout the day to express their displeasure after several of them couldn’t access their accounts to transfer funds and make bill payments on time. “Wow! so the netbanking and mobile app both are down for the entire day. What a shame! Can’t pay my bills (sic),” tweeted one user, while another said: “My credit card bill payment is due today...if this will not resolve today then who is responsible for late fees?”
With a customer base of 50 million, HDFC Bank is the largest private sector bank in the country and one of the largest retail banks in the world.

I have been a loyal customer fro HDFC Bank from 2005 but today, i was very disappointed by the unprofessional and sub standard behaviour of the top management in dealing with the crash. No Back up. No SLA. No BCP. Nothing. If airline cancels its flight, we get refund or alternative arrangement. What do I do if I cannot pay my bills in time due to the incompetency and arrogance of the Bank?. Will they compensate me? We all bat for Private players and now we have our faces covered with soot.

HDFC Bank is not elaborating what the 'technical glitch' was. Further it is shocking that a bank of its stature and size took 3 days to get functional. 15th Dec is the deadline for 3rd instalment of Advance Tax but being a Sunday, banks will be closed.
When I emailed my personal banker today morning if any of their branches would be open on 15th Dec her reply was "On 15th December 2019 is Sunday and bank will be closed on that day. We are apologies for inconvenience caused to you due to net banking and app services not performing from last 3 days due to technical glitch. HDFC Bank's netbanking and app services are now functioning normally.
Thank you for your patience."
In other words if you want to be on the safe side - pay during banking hours on Friday 13th!!
When I had applied with other bank chq for 7.75% goi bonds, debit showed on 2.9.19(bank holiday) but HDFCBank gave bonds effective from 3.9.19 i.e. they received credit of funds on 2.9.19 but paid no interest for the same.
In quite a few press articles re flouting of rules HDFC bank finds mention.
It is very unnerving to find such 'don't care' attitude from bankers.
