The voluntary recall of vehicles due to potential safety concerns has more than doubled year-on-year in 2018, as glitches in software and electronic parts coupled with the current norm of installing standardised components in automobiles led to a spurt in recalls. The industry defines recall as a fault or defect that can pose a safety concern. Indian vehicle makers have adopted voluntary recall policy as there is no legislation on recalls yet.
