Indoor theme park Bounce to enter India

Bounce will be the second international theme park format to launch in India after Mexican brand KidZania, which was launched in India in 2013 and has Bollywood star Shahrukh Khan as one of the investors in Indian business.

MUMBAI: Australian indoor trampoline theme park format Bounce will enter India later this year with its first centre in the western suburbs of Mumbai. The Mumbai launch will be followed by 6-7 more venues across the country within the next four years, said Anand Barot, director and CEO, Bounce India and co-founder of Stratospheric Entertainment, the India master franchise owners for Bounce Inc.

Bounce will be the second international theme park format to launch in India after Mexican edutainment brand KidZania, which was launched in India in 2013 and has Bollywood star Shahrukh Khan as one of the investors in Indian business.

“Me and my partners Keyur and Divya Nagori happened to visit the Bounce centre in Dubai. It occurred to us that this has appeal across age groups and could be a good business model. So, we reached out to them for a possible partnership to launch in India,” Barot told ET. “They were already keen to come to India, but haven’t got serious partners. We met in February this year and in April we signed as the exclusive franchise for Bounce Inc in India.”

Bounce, unlike KidZania, is for people of all ages and is already running operations at 32 venues across 16 countries including Australia, UK, US, Singapore and the Middle East.

Talking about India plans, Barot said that Stratospheric Entertainment will be investing about Rs 150 crore over the next 4 years to open 7-8 Bounce venues in India.

As part of the deal, Stratospheric Entertainment will make all the investments, while Bounce will help with the installations, designing, training the staff, and knowledge transfer.

According to Barot, each venue costs around Rs 20 crore, whereas the breakeven time is around 18-24 months. “As per our calculations, even at a 30% capacity, we will break even in 18 months. At any point of time, only 200 guests will be allowed in the play area and there will be around 15 different activities and a café and a banquet area,” said Barot.

While the first venue will be open to public from first week of December, Stratospheric Entertainment has initiated talks with developers in Delhi, Gurgaon, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad for possible locations.
