ISL opening day viewership doubles on Star Sports, Hotstar

The opening match played in Kochi on October 20th, between arch rivals Kerala Blasters FC and ATK, clocked 1.2 TVR among urban India (M15+AB), the broadcaster said. The viewership growth on Hotstar over last season was almost 97%.

MUMBAI: The sixth season of the Indian Super League (ISL) has started with a bang with the opening match of the tourney witnessing almost 96% increase in TV viewership, media rights owner Star India said.

The opening match played in Kochi on October 20th, between arch rivals Kerala Blasters FC and ATK, clocked 1.2 TVR among urban India (M15+AB), the broadcaster said. The viewership growth on Hotstar over last season was almost 97%.

The two teams have a long history and have met previously in two finals - 2014 and 2016, both of which were won by ATK.

There has been a rise in the fan following for Indian football in the country and the ISL. This season, Star India is broadcasting the match in seven languages and across 20 channels.

Two new teams, Hyderabad FC and Odisha FC, have also been added this season.
