Alcis Sports inks tie-up with FIFA

Athlete sportswear and leisurewear maker Alcis Sports has inked a tie-up with FIFA World Cup to exclusively manufacture and distribute merchandise in India for the 2018 World Cup, a company official said.

Alcis Sports managing director Roshan Baid said besides India, Alcis Sports has the rights to sell and distribute in Sri Lanka, Nepal and Pakistan. The company said the ‘affordably-priced’ licensed apparel range will retail country-specific merchandise including from Brazil, Germany, England and Spain.

“We will leverage Paragon Apparels for backend manufacturing, which we believe is a core strength, along with new-age technology and styling,” Baid said.

Alcis Sports, a flagship entity promoted by casual and sportswear maker Paragon Apparel, manufactures for categories including running, training and sports.

A Morgan Stanley report estimates that the athletic wear industry could add $83 billion in sales by 2020, with Asia being the biggest contributor to athletic-wear.

Presently, the US is the world’s biggest market for active wear at $97 billion, and the report forecasts that markets in Asia and Latin America have the maximum potential to grow.
