Upskill to the cloud, all are moving there
All the major cloud service providers offer certification on their official sites. AWS provides 190 different training courses in online and classroom format.
There’s also the private cloud, where existing in-house IT infrastructure take on characteristics of the public cloud, and that again is being widely adopted. Many of the traditional IT infrastructure vendors — such as HP and IBM, as also new ones like Nutanix — provide private cloud solutions.
Cloud computing is many times more efficient than traditional infrastructure, and has emerged as one of the hottest technologies to upskill in. Vineet Chaturvedi, co-founder of education firm Edureka, says cloud solution architects are some of the best paid professionals in the IT industry today, with an average salary of Rs 17.9 lakh.
To become a cloud computing expert, it pays to have basic programming skills like Java and an engineering background. Strong logical reasoning skills are also very important. “If you don’t have basic programming skills, then you may need to spend some time on that before actually moving on to cloud computing,” says Mayank Kumar, co-founder of education firm upGrad.
If you can tick those basic boxes, then the next step is to identify a course that is suitable for you. This is where education technology firms come into play. These companies typically have a team of dedicated counsellors who are trained to match you with the course best suited for your abilities. Window shopping for the right service should be your first step, talking to a few of the well-regarded course providers should clarify a lot of your doubts on how to move forward.
AWS vs Azure
The global battle to be the public cloud services market leader is dominated by AWS and Microsoft Azure. AWS is by far the dominant player, with Azure at No. 2 and Google Cloud at No. 3. Each one has specific strengths. Even though Google is behind in market share, it’s preferred by many for AI applications. Focus on mastering one of the three platforms.
