Providing connectivity fundamental to growing content services: Vodafone Idea CEO Ravinder Takkar
According to State of Mobile 2018 report by Google, Indians spend 17 hours a week on social media which is highest in the world.
“Vodafone, globally is investing in adjacencies to tap into the users’ mobile usage behaviour. With Indians consuming 10 GB a month, we could just be seeing the tip of the iceberg and there’s more to come. We are committed to catering to the evolving needs of our customers,” Takkar said during a session on connectivity and content.
The executive added that it is essential that the telecom service providers provide capabilities to begin with which they later enable through bringing more partners on the platform and then let the customers decide.
According to State of Mobile 2018 report by Google, Indians spend 17 hours a week on social media which is highest in the world. Also, 30% phone time of Indians is spent on entertainment along with over 60 minutes daily time spent gaming.
Indians further spend 52 minutes watching video. News, beauty and fitness, food and drink segments are showing exponential growth, as per the mentioned report.
“Five years back I would have never thought counting calories on smartphones would be a thing. Monitoring fitness takes the top spot on mobile usage with 24% of total usage. Connectivity has become an inseparable part of our lives; it’s a gateway to fulfilling myriad of needs,” Takkar said.
He further said that it is imperative that telecom service providers help people understand why they need a 4G connection or better connectivity. “..we have to incubate some of the things, today people don’t understand why they need 4G, once we incubate that then consumption takes off.”
