    Kashi Mahakal Express launched

    After successfully running two Tejas Express trains between New Delhi-Lucknow and Mumbai-Ahmedabad, the IRCTC launched its third such service - Kashi Mahakal Express - between Varanasi and Indore on February 16. The train was flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

    The Kashi Mahakal Express will connect three places -- Jyotirlinga - Omkareshwar (near Indore in Madhya Pradesh), Mahakaleshwar (Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh) and Kashi Vishwanath (Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh), besides also connecting the industrial and educational hub of Indore, and Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh. Its commercial run will begin from Feb 20, 2020.

    Seat reserved for Lord Shiva!

    In a first, seat number 64 of coach B5 in the Kashi-Mahakal Express, that connects three Jyotirlingas in two states, has been turned into a mini-temple devoted to Lord Shiva. The railway authorities have kept pictures dedicated to Lord Shiva on the seat, they are also mulling to keep this seat reserved for the Lord in the days ahead. Offering prayers at the seat on auspicious days and occasions are also being considered.

    The bi-weekly Kashi Mahakal Express train no. 82401 from Varanasi – Indore will depart from Varanasi at 2:45 PM every Tuesday and Thursday and reach Indore at 09:40 AM the following day from February 20 onward. For the return trip, train no. 82402, a bi-weekly service, will leave Indore at 10:55 AM every Wednesday and Friday and reach Varanasi at 6:00 AM the next morning from February 21, 2020. This train will stop at Bina, Jhansi, Kanpur, Ujjain, Sant Hirdaram Nagar, Lucknow and Sultanpur stations, both to and fro.

    This weekly train no. 82403 from Varanasi - Indore will depart from Varanasi at 3:15 PM every Sunday to reach Indore at 9:40 AM the following day from February 23, 2020. Likewise, train no. 82404 from Indore – Varanasi will leave from Indore at 10:55 AM every Monday and reach Varanasi at 5:00 AM the next day from February 24, 2020. The stoppage stations of this train will be Ujjain, Jhansi, Kanpur Sant Hirdaram Nagar, Bina and Allahabad stations, both to and fro. The train coaches will have LED lights.

    Being the first long-distance overnight journey train, IRCTC has geared up to provide a host of facilities and services to the passengers on-board including high-quality vegetarian food, on-board bedrolls and housekeeping services and on-board security services. The train also offers exclusive optional tour packages for the passengers covering the religious, business as well as tourism sites of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. Light devotional music, two dedicated private guards in every coach will be there on board.

    Every passenger travelling on the train will be covered with complimentary travel insurance of Rs 10 lakh during the journey.

    Kashi Mahakal Express: Fare scheme

    The fare of train No. 82401 is INR 1951 from Varanasi to Indore from. The train fare till Prayagraj is INR 737, Lucknow is INR 679, Kanpur is INR 980, Bina is INR 1463, Sant Hirdaram Nagar is INR 1599 and Ujjain is INR 1803. The passengers willing to book the ticket for the Kashi Mahakal Express can book their tickets on the IRCTC website and its mobile app 'Irctc Rail Connect'. The IRCTC said that passengers can also get their tickets booked through authorised agents and online travel partners of IRCTC. The train will have an advance reservation period of 120 days and will only have the general and foreign tourist quotas.
