With almost every other Indian ad being a homage to Bollywood or cricket, YouTube has narrowed down India's most viewed cricket themed ads. Prepare to be surprised.

MS Dhoni sings for his Buddies

From Aircel to Himalaya, here are India's most-viewed cricket themed ads

MS Dhoni has just entered a party and even before he's had a chance to get himself an er…soda, he's being forced to sing. Yeah, it's one of those parties. But soon he's belting it out like the best of them. Or is he? This soda spot packs a twist in the tale.

Make a #BoldMove - Virat Kohli

From Aircel to Himalaya, here are India's most-viewed cricket themed ads

While the film has a wonderful dystopian vibe with several high-speed trains travelling in the same direction in a colorless world, alas, this ain't the sequel to Snowpiercer. Instead Virat Kohli urges a young man who can't decide whether to keep or quit his corporate job and a Hindu-Muslim couple to break free from the tyranny of a life not of their choosing and be nidar (bold). Just jump off. Preferably when the locomotive is not in motion.

The Joy of a Little Extra

From Aircel to Himalaya, here are India's most-viewed cricket themed ads

A bunch of kids play cricket on a dusty field and out of nowhere MS Dhoni appears to give them a few lessons and training tips, hugs and autographs. We can just hear their little emoji hearts burst with joy. A story of an idol delighting his young fans without a ponderous voiceover and schmaltzy plot, is a good over in our books

Mauka Mauka (India vs Bangladesh) -
ICC Cricket World Cup 2015

From Aircel to Himalaya, here are India's most-viewed cricket themed ads

The famous Mauka Mauka - India vs The World campaign got a life of its own during the 2015 Cricket World Cup triggering the meme-generating machine. This film from the series, reminiscent of the famous 'Ek Chatur Naar' scene in the film Padosan, has Team India lead by actor Sanjay Mishra in a sort of hyper riff-off with Pakistan and the rest. No prizes for guessing how that turned out.

ICC Champions Trophy 2017 - #ChampionsKaWorldCup

This spot found itself on the YouTube Leaderboard last week for reiterating a fact universally acknowledged - har koi in India dekhega cricket, in particular the ICC Champions Trophy. Why? For "Virat ke chakke", "Smith ka glance" and "batsman ke dil mein bowler ka fear", among other things.

Nayi Soch - Son of Devki

From Aircel to Himalaya, here are India's most-viewed cricket themed ads

We wager this ad would have been a bit of a damp squib without Captain Cool himself, MS Dhoni, as protagonist. Wry without being preachy, it was also mercifully short, a lesson that many ads in love with grandstanding and yelling from atop soapboxes could learn.

Men and RCB Hate Pimples Too!
A young cricketer who, in our unprofessional opinion, might be suffering from kleptomania, steals… sorry, borrows, a tube of facewash from Virat Kohli's duffel. Caught red handed, the RCB boys solve their young teammate's "pimple problem" but not before making the kid blush. The only thing more painful than watching this dull spot with the kicker "Men hate pimples too!" are videos of people bursting pus-filled zits.

Instant Live Updates
A celebration of the one guy who always gets the scores first. Except in this case, he is in the stadium and instead of watching the match in real time, is apparently getting updates quicker than they happen, thanks to a rip in the time-space continuum and/or his superfast browser

Bhaag #OHYESABHI

From Aircel to Himalaya, here are India's most-viewed cricket themed ads

So intent are these amateur cricketers on playing the game, they crash the stadium, bump into Virat Kohli and instead of a sound trashing and a perma-ban from the venue, they romp home with a Pepsi for their efforts. This cricket wish fulfilment fantasy had more than its fair share of takers

The Best a Fan Can Get
Unlike us at BE, viewers were less bogged down by this ad's logical fallacies - the inexplicable appearance of Rahul Dravid for instance - and were instead looking for tissues to weep into. A cricket lover who doesn't let blindness stop him from appreciating the sport had, at best, a tangential connection with Gillette. But when the waterworks are running, who cares?
