We produce over 5,000 litres of cow urine every day: Acharya Balkrishna, CEO, Patanjali
Patanjali CEO, Acharya Balkrishna reveals the business aspect of cow urine and how it's a thriving industry.

On cow urine
Cow urine (gomutra ark) is the biggest natural detoxicant. It not only kills toxins within the body but is beneficial for treating diseases ranging from obesity to cancer to kidney and liver ailments.

On its medicinal values
Earlier, people used to talk about cow urine only from a religious point of view as there was not enough scientific evidence to substantiate its medicinal value. But now its medicinal value is well documented. Its benefits are scientifically proven. In fact, traces of gold, silver and other metals can be found in the urine of the Gir cows.

On Gonyle
Gonyle, a disinfectant floor cleaner made from cow urine, purifies your house, kills all bacteria and is devoid of any chemicals. We produce over 30,000 litres of Gonyle per day. The demand for this product is massive because yeh chemical mukt hai aur jadibooti yukt hai (it is free from chemicals and is loaded with herbs). It's cheaper than the phenyl you get in the market. Cow urine as disinfectant has been part of our culture and tradition.

On zero marketing of cow urine
We have never advertised or marketed separately any of our products made from cow urine. Out of over 400 products, only five are made using it, and there is only one for internal use: ark. The sales have largely been through word-of-mouth, and we have never felt the need to aggressively push it. People are gradually becoming aware of the medicinal properties of cow urine and it shows in the way our production has increased. We also make Panchgavya soap and Kayakalp oil using cow urine.

On spreading awareness
The misconceptions will vanish once awareness about the benefits spread across the country. And I won't be surprised if more and more people start using cow urine in its various forms.
