A few films realistically portrayed and accurately traced the events of the day and brilliantly brought to life, the pain and agony of the victims on screen.

11 years after 26/11, we take a look at the films, the storylines of which, brilliantly captured terrifying reality of the incident.

Hotel Mumbai (2019)

The action-thriller directed by Anthony Maras attempted to portray the terrifying incident on the silver screen. When tragedy strikes, in an attempt to save our near and dear ones, all of us take desperate measures.

The movie essentially shows how the staff at Taj Hotel, Mumbai risked their lives to keep everyone safe and the extremes that families went to, to save their loved ones. The film stars ‘Slumdog Millionaire’-fame Dev Patel, veteran actor Anupam Kher, Amandeep Singh and Suhail Nayyar amongst others.

Although the film released in India this year, it saw a worldwide release last year.

One Less God (2017)

More often than not, when a film portrays 26/11 attacks on screen, it often does so from the perspective of localites, policemen and the guests at Taj Hotel. However ‘One Less God’, was an exception. The film took into account, the perspective of international travellers who were victimized at the hands of terrorists and ended up losing their lives.

It shows the struggle of a group of travellers to survive after their hotel is attacked by terrorists. The film stars Joseph Mahler Taylor, Sukhraj Deepak, Mihika Rao and Kabir Singh among others.

The Katrina Kaif and Saif Ali Khan-starrer ‘Phantom’ is one of the few Indian commercial films that took into account the heinous incident of 26/11. The film does not directly deal with the attacks, but they play an important role in the overall script.

The screenplay of the movie is an adaptation of the book ‘Mumbai Avengers’ written by author Hussain Zaidi.The movie is directed by Kabir Khan and written by Parveez Sheikh, Kausar Munir and Kabir Khan.

The Attacks Of 26/11 (2013)

Ram Gopal Verma’s ‘The Attacks Of 26/11’ is probably the only film in Bollywood which traces the entire sequence of events which took place on the fateful day and also realistically portrays their aftermath.

From showing the 10 terrorists who sailed to Mumbai wreck havoc on the city, to showing plight of the victims of the attack, the movie does it all. Nana Patekar plays the titular role in the film and portrays Mumbai top cop Rakesh Maria who handled the investigations. The film also stars Atul Kulkarni, Ganesh Yadav, and Sadh Orhan amongst others.

Shahid (2012)

‘Shahid’ is the story of a young Muslim boy who is arrested and tortured for his identity. Once released, the boy takes it upon himself to study law and fight cases for the people who are booked under Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA).

Eventually, the boy goes on to defend Faheem Ansari who is accused of perpetrating the 26/11 attacks. The film is based on the life of Shahid Azmi, a lawyer and a Human Rights Activist.
