Deriving his inspiration from the British Raj, fashion designer Raghavendra Rathore showcased a line inspired by the colonial Indo Western spirit on day one, Tuesday, of the ongoing Van Heusen + GQ Fashion Nights in Mumbai. When it's Rathore, the front row, as expected was filled with fashion elites who showered the designer with a thunderous applause as his showstopper for the night, actor Saif Ali Khan closed the show for him.

The collection was an amalgamation of varied influences-intellectual, military and Oriental. Classic Nehru jackets, jawar waistcoats, riding breeches, shirts and achkans were the highlights of the collection against the backdrop of a strong black-and-white theme.

When asked about his inspiration for the collection, Rathore said, "Saif Ali Khan and brand Raghavendra Rathore have over the years built great chemistry that has helped inspire heritage clothing across the Indian diaspora. I feel that Mr. Khan's lineage and his sense of style evoke the same emotions as does the brand. The ready-to-wear line 'The Imperial India Company' draws its inspiration from the bespoke brand 'Raghavendra Rathore', and appeals to a younger audience but draws its values from the British Raj genre, in that regard too, no better person could connect more suitably than Mr. Khan."
