Baseus is one of the known brands when it comes to smartphone accessories. Their latest is the Baseus Encok headphone S17 – a sweatproof wireless earbud style headphone that comes in an option of black or white colour.
Weighing just 22 grams, the S17 headphones are lightweight but have a premium look and feel. The first thing that impressed us is its ear-hook design. The ear-hooks are made of soft silicone making them easy to wear. Moreover, they are extremely comfortable to wear for long durations. The ear-hook design also ensures that they do not slip out of the ear or fall out during exercise – a common issue we face with wireless earbud-style headphones. In addition, the S17 is IPX5 waterproof and sweatproof – making them ideal for use in the gym or outside for exercise. You can even wash them under water if required, just make sure the charging port is properly sealed.
We also loved the design of the earbuds – they are inclined at an angle that sits comfortably in the ear canal. These earbuds do not go in-ear, but yet due to the angled fit, it provides a good amount of noise isolation. On the outside, the earbuds have a magnet, so you can lock them around your neck when not in use. It also has in-line controls with buttons that have a satisfying click feel with its tactile feedback and also has a micro USB port for charging. The charging port has a flap cover to protect from water damage, however, we did feel that the flap was fragile and would break off with general wear and tear.
Audio output from the S17 is surprisingly well balanced. Sound clarity is top notch and there is a good amount of bass also present. We liked its wide soundstage and how well it delivered on the mid and high frequencies – guitars, drums and vocals sound great. However, we won't recommend it if you listen to bass heavy music like EDM or techno. We used the headphones with a OnePlus 7 smartphone and it worked seamlessly thanks to Bluetooth 5.0. There was also no delay in audio/video sync while watching video from streaming services.
The Encok Headphone S17 boasts of dual battery design. There is a 50mAh battery in each earbud which effectively delivered just over 7 hours of battery life on a single charge which is impressive. What we did not like was that once the battery level drops to 20%, there is an irritating low battery notification beep every one minute. Also, once you reach 20%, the battery drops very fast and will run out in 10 minutes. Charging from 0 to 100% takes over an hour.
It would have been great if Baseus included a carry pouch or box in the price for storage. Overall, the headphones are one of the best options available today for users who want high-quality audio with a comfortable design and good battery life. The headphones are not available in India but you can order them from Amazon.
