Beardo boss bats for moustaches this 'Movember'; talks about the biggest grooming mistake men make

    Synopsis

Ashutosh Valani recommends adding a beard oil or gel to keep your beard moisturised.

    Agencies
Ashutosh Valani, founder of men’s grooming brand Beardo, sports a full beard year-round.
The Van Dyke beard, moustaches and a man-bun + beard combo will be some of the most popular looks this Movember.

It’s Movember once again and all around the world, men are dumping the razor to raise awareness about men’s health - specifically prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention.

“The biggest trend this Movember will be moustaches,” said Ashutosh Valani, founder of men’s grooming brand Beardo, who sports a full beard year-round. “They are making a big comeback like in the '80’s. A lot of Bollywood hunks have been sporting moustaches in their recent and upcoming films. So Chevron, handlebar, horseshoe…come all but keep ‘em coming!”

It’s not only moustaches that will be in vogue this season. According to Valani, some beard looks that will be immensely popular in the coming quarter are a think stubble beard, the Van Dyke beard and the man-bun + beard look.

Asked what inspired his own no-shave look, Valani quipped, “The question that prompted me was why shave regularly? I like how the beard goes with my personality and I’m not shaving this off anytime soon.”

    Clean Up That Scruff
“The key to a great beard is keeping it clean, moisturized and well-trimmed so a beard wash and beard oil are staples of my regime, even if I’m travelling,” said Valani.

Asked how often guys should clean their beards, he quipped, ““Well, that depends on how many dates you score.”

“On a serious note it depends on the kind of growth you have and what kind of look you want to achieve. Some men might need to trim their hair and beard every week while for some it may take two weeks or even once a month.”

According to Valani, the biggest mistake guys make when growing a beard is not moisturizing enough, which makes way for itchiness and frizz. He recommends adding a beard oil or gel to keep your beard moisturized.

    The Movember Must-Have Kit
Whether you’re sporting some scruff to raise awareness or to support a fellow bro or you just enjoy the feeling of a little fuzz, here are a few tips to help you sail through Movember.

    • Use a comb and shaping tool to keep your beard in shape and promote uniform circulation of natural oil. Trimming your beard regularly can lead to a sharp and shapely beard, which defines your jawline.
    • Don’t touch your face or fuzz too often to avoid spreading bacteria or dirt. Use a beard wash daily to keep the fuzz clean.
    • Also use beard oil or gel to keep your beard moisturized.
