    Bhajan singer Narendra Chanchal passes away at 76; PM Modi pays tribute


    The singer died after suffering from brain complications.

    Veteran singer Narendra Chanchal passes away at 80
    Bhajan singer Narendra Chanchal died at a private hospital here on Friday following some health complications, sources said. He was 76.

    Chanchal breathed his last at 12:15 pm at Apollo Hospital in New Delhi, the sources told PTI.

    He was admitted to the south Delhi hospital on November 27 and died after suffering from brain complications, they said.

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday expressed anguish at the death of noted 'bhajan' singer, and said that he had carved a unique place for himself in the sphere of devotional song singing.

    In a tweet, Modi expressed his condolences to the singer's family and fans.

    Soon after PM Modi's tweet, the Ministry of Culture also put out a tribute for the singer.

    Music composer Vishal Dadlani said that the Chanchal will be remembered forever through the songs he sang. "I doubt anyone will ever walk up to Vaishnodevi without hearing his voice resounding through the hills," his post read.

    In an identical post, former cricketer Harbhajan Singh and singer-songwriter Daler Mehndi said that they were deeply saddened by the sudden demise of Chanchal. "In prayers for his soul to rest in peace. Heartfelt condolences to his family," the duo wrote.

    In his tribute, director Madhur Bhandarkar said that the singer will always be remembered for his bhajans and some remarkable songs in Hindi films.

    Actor Ranvir Shorey said that Chanchal's "unique voice had the ability to pierce straight to a listener’s heart, making every listening experience an emotional and spiritual one".
