Richard Branson is a business tycoon with a $4 billion fortune today who lives on an island he has purchased. However, before he made his billions, he was just a college dropout who was trying to make ends meet.

So hard up was he that he couldn’t even afford a house. So he just started living on a houseboat on the London canal.

Recently, Branson posted a throwback memory of the time spent on the houseboat.

“When the kids were growing up, we were living on a houseboat in London. Virgin Records was expanding and I worked with a desk crammed between the bilge pump and the stairs (or any seat I could find). It’s hard to raise a family and build a business, but it’s incredibly rewarding,” he wrote in the caption.
