It was recently announced that malls, multiplexes and restaurants located in non-residential areas in Mumbai could operate 24x7 starting January 27.
Here’s what those in the hospitality business have to say about the new rule.
Hemant Oberoi, Chef and Owner at Hemant Oberoi Restaurant, BKC
“It’s a good idea for a vibrant city like Mumbai to have restaurants opened throughout the night as people are always looking for late night dining options and it was about time the government looked into this. We welcome this amendment; however, it is early to say if we would be keeping our restaurant open 24*7.”
Ashish Sajnani, Founder & Director of Opa Hospitality
“Yes, we would like to keep our restaurants open for longer hours on the weekends. It’s a great move by the dynamic leader and his vision for creating jobs and tourism is finally seeing the light of the day! Maximum city is on its way to fruition.”
Abhayraj Kohli, Restaurateur, Grandmama's Cafe, Grandpa's Den, MRP
“A great move by the government, something favourable for the hospitality industry after a very, very long time. It is so encouraging that young politicians understand the changing times and are taking tourism seriously. We welcome this move and now are waiting for a time extension for serving alcohol till 3 am.”
Arjun Raj Kher, Brand Head of Bayroute and Hitchki
“We gladly welcome this move by the government. This establishment will boost tourism and employment and it will pave way for more business especially on the weekends and we are glad we will literally be a city that never sleeps. This is what Mumbai is known for.”
Krishna Gupta – Managing Director of 1441 Pizzeria
“This a great move by the government understanding the need of the hour. We have been receiving queries to keep our outlets open and delivering pizza's as people love to binge late hours of the night. This will also help us in our businesses by boosting our sales without any additions from the company's back end. The decision to stay open 24*7 helps restaurants improve the existing investment in the business too. Hence, it’s a win-win for customers and us both.”
