Doordarshan turns 60: Amul celebrates anniversary with a colourful 'Surabhi' post

The cultural show telecast between 1990 and 2001 and presented by Siddharth Kak and Renuka Shahane.

Doordarshan, on Sunday, celebrated its 60 anniversary. Founded in September 15, 1959, it revolutionised Indian television circuit by broadcasting shows with a perfect mix of information and entertainment. Dairy brand, Amul, too, joined in the celebration and shared a colourful post to mark the occasion.

Amul India shared two images on Twitter. In the first picture, a kid is shown having breakfast as a show play on TV in the background.

While the second picture shows an illustration of the cultural show 'Surabhi'. The show telecast between 1990 and 2001 and presented by Siddharth Kak and Renuka Shahane was popular among the audience.

The first local rural television broadcast happened in Pij village in Gujarat's Kheda district in 1975 under Satellite Instructional Television Experiment (SITE) with programming by Amul. This later paved way for Krishi Darshan programme for farmers on Doordarshan.

Legendary music composer Mohammed Zahir Hashmi, popularly known as Khayyam, was laid to rest with full state honours on Tuesday. The National Award-winning music director, whose work took classics like 'Umrao Jaan' and 'Kabhie Kabhie' to a new level, passed away on Monday at the age of 92 following a brief illness.Khayyam held a special place in the hearts of millions, not just for producing evergreen tunes, but for being an amiable soul. In his memory, veterans from the Indian film industry and fans bid a tearful adieu on social media. Not just this, the lifetime achievement award-winner's funeral saw an array of Bollywood directors, singers and music composers arriving to pay their last respects.Dairy brand Amul too, remembered Khayyam in a retro-themed post.In memory of the music legend, here's a look at all those who mourned the loss of Khayyam.
