NEW DELHI: Wide-screen displays are passé. It's time for smartphones with sleek, remote-style screens.

For the first time after sexual misconduct allegations, the Essential Products CEO Andy Rubin, also known as the 'Father of Android', shared a glimpse of the unusual phone prototype on Twitter. In series of posts, the former Android co-founder showed the narrow candy bar-style touchscreen with glossy back panel and new user interface for radically different form-factor.

While the devices will come in a wide ranges of colours like turquoise, orange, purple and blue, they come with colour-shift material. The experts believe it could be the next Essential Phone.

According to observations made by 9to5Google, the prototype has a front-facing hole punch camera in the top-left corner with primary navigation (back button and pill) seemingly at the top instead of the bottom. A narrow bezel frames the entire screen and you can see a small speaker grill at the top edge.

Essential had confirmed last month that its second device was 'in testing' after some specifications emerged.

The device images also seem to show a large button and volume rocker on the right edge and a fingerprint divot around the rear, below what appears to be a single main camera.

The original Essential Phone that debuted in 2017 was known for its flashy design, including a sea green colour variant with gold accents known as Ocean Depths.

The 56-year-old entrepreneur was in news last year after reports of Google paying him a handsome $90 million exit package despite allegations of sexual misconduct were confirmed.
