Freida Pinto's luxury bucket-list: Indulgent holidays and a dream address in Notting Hill
The actress opens up about luxe vacations, her dream house and what luxury means to her.
Soaking in the high life has perhaps becoming a way of being for Pinto, one of India’s best known imports to the West. Part of her job profile includes being brand ambassador to a luxury watch company, being the face of a prominent spirit brand, walking the red carpet in Cannes every year and being splashed on hoardings across the globe as part of her deal with a cosmetic company.

But Pinto has a very different definition of luxury. “It’s something that needs to be enjoyed in moderation. Just because you have the wealth and capacity to enjoy or buy something doesn’t mean you absolutely go overboard and have too much of one particular thing,” she tells ETPanache Luxury. “It’s more luxurious when you have things you desire in minimalistic quantities. It also makes you value that luxury item more. It’s like a great watch that I will invest in that I know is not cheap, but I’ll value it.”
Pinto travels a lot on work, but counts vacations as the real deal. It’s the one thing she doesn’t mind splurging on. “I will 100 per cent spend on holidays,” she says. While she doesn’t mind the occasional holiday where she has to “rough it out”, it is not something she would like to do “all the time”. If luxe holidays have found a permanent spot on the actor’s annual to-do list, her luxury bucket list is as practical as it can get. “It’s a home. Not in Bombay, I already have one here.
I want one in Los Angeles or London and I know exactly what kind of home it should be and I’m willing to wait to break the bank for it,” she says, with enthusiasm. The view, she says is important, but more than that it’s the serenity that will surround her future home that excites her. “The place should be surrounded by trees. But I’m willing to forgo the trees if I get something Victorian in London,” she says.
Her dream address would be in London’s hip Notting Hill, a place she has lived in and “absolutely loves”. But, right now, she says, “I’m just exercising patience till I get the right house.”.
