Gold-infused popcorn, tacos & prime Russian caviar: What a $4.6 mn lunch date with Warren Buffett can buy

What the dough going towards the winning bid for a lunch date with Warren Buffett can actually buy.

Crypto-entrepreneur Justin Sun bid a record $4.6 million (or $4,567,888 to be exact) to have lunch with the Oracle of Omaha – billionaire Warren Buffett – at a high-scale restaurant in San Francisco. Present at the three-hour lunch date will be Buffett, Sun and six other “industry leaders” who hope to convince Buffett of the wisdom of cryptocurrency. Should they have splurged on food, here is what could have been put on the table – each costing the same price as that lunch meeting:

913,577 kernels of billion-dollar popcorn
Touted as the most expensive popcorn in the world, Berco’s billion-dollar popcorn is made with 23-karat edible gold flakes and salt harvested from the Danish island Laeso (which according to Norse mythology was the feasting place of the Gods). Each kernel costs $5.

76 ice-cream sundaes from Mt. Kilimanjaro
What makes this ice-cream sundae luxurious is that it is crafted from the disappearing glacier on Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa. Inspired by the founder’s hike up the Mount, the $60,000 ice-cream from Three Twins also includes firstclass airfare to Tanzania, five-star accommodations, a guided climb up the mountain to harvest the ice needed and ice-cream fashioned by the founder himself.

26 gold-infused tacos paired with platinum tequila
What’s better than a $25,000 taco? One that comes with a $150,000 platinum and white gold bottle of Tequila Ley 925. The Grand Velas Los Cabos resort in Mexico offers guests a special gold-infused corn tortilla, layered with Kobe beef and lobster and topped with black truffle Brie ($100 per ounce) and a dollop of Beluga caviar ($700 an ounce).

32,168 ounces of Russian Osetra caviar
Nothing says luxury quite like caviar, and Osetra caviar — the roe of Russian sturgeon — is said to be the crème de la crème of caviar, rivalled only by the illustrious Beluga caviar. A single ounce of Osetra caviar from Marshallberg Farms (about 30 gm) is worth $142.

Lessons From The Expert

28 Aug, 2018
If you're having a not-so-great time at work, and in life in general, don't lose hope. All great journeys have had rocky starts. And if you need some inspiration to keep going, here are some quotes from the 'Oracle of Omaha' that will lend perspective.

5,767 kgs of prime Wagyu Kobe fillet
Dubbed the ‘Rolls-Royce’ in its category, Wagyu is highly prized for its melt-in-yourmouth, buttery soft flavour. But the most sought after is Kobe beef, a type of Wagyu raised only in the Hyogo province of Japan. Last year, a single Wagyu Kobe fillet A5, imported from Japan, retailed at 625 pounds ($787) a kilo at Harrods.

130 Faberge-styled chocolate puddings
This $35,000 confection from Lindeth Howe Country House Hotel, England is crafted using four different types of Belgian chocolate, a champagne jelly and a light biscuit joconde. Served in an edible replica of a Faberge egg, the dessert comes with a $788 bottle of dessert wine, strawberry caviar and a two-carat diamond on the top.

182 Frrrozen Haute Chocolate sundaes
The Guinness World’s most expensive dessert, the Frrrozen Haute Chocolate ice-cream sundae from Serendipity 3, New York is a lavish blend of 28 cocoas, including 14 of the world’s most expensive. Served in a goblet, the $25,000 dish is decorated with edible 23-karat gold and eaten with a gold spoon (decorated with white and chocolate-coloured diamonds) that can be taken home.
