Valentine’s Day isn’t just for budding relationships or first loves. A recent BharatMatrimony survey found that 86 per cent of respondents would celebrate Valentine’s Day post marriage with their spouse.

Of the 8,058 members who participated in the survey, 58 per cent of women and 45 per cent men opined that celebrating the day “helps strengthen marital bonds” while 31 per cent women and 48 per cent men said that it was a “special day to express love.”

Among those who said they may not celebrate the day post marriage, 31 per cent women and 41 per cent men reasoned that “anniversaries and birthdays are more important days,” while 35% women and 29% men said Valentine’s Day was “just a marketing gimmick.”

When it came to expressing love, participants also differed on what they thought was a more romantic gesture. Only 22 per cent of women said they wanted a gift while 54 per cent said they’d prefer it if their partner expressed their love on Valentine’s Day by saying, ‘I found my equal’.

Men, on the other hand, said they’d rather express their love by gifting her something she loves (32 per cent or respondents), saying ‘I found my equal’ (25 per cent), going out for a romantic dinner (21 per cent) and holidaying (15 per cent).
