Film-maker Karan Johar, who is currently in Australia for the 10th edition of Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM), hoisted the National flag at the fest ahead of Independence Day.

Dressed in a white outfit with gold accents by designer duo Shantanu and Nikhil for the occasion, the 47-year-old - after hoisting the Tricolour at the Federation Square - also sang the National anthem along with the attendees.

According to a report in the Times Of India, Johar called the opportunity an 'honour', while saying, “I'm looking forward to celebrating Indian Independence Day in one of the world's most vibrant multicultural cities, Melbourne. The sense of community and unity centres around the pride of our flag and the celebration of India's independence is something I'm looking forward to. It's truly an honour for me to be the one this year to hoist our tricolour at the landmark in Melbourne."

The Mayor of Melbourne Sally Capp also attended the flag hoisting, and shared pictures on her Twitter handle.

The festival is marking 20 years of Johar's directorial debut, 'Kuck Kuch Hota Hai'.

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan is also attending the festival as its chief guest. The actor was recognised for his contribution to cinema and popular culture in India, and honoured with the 'Excellence In Cinema' award.
