Earlier, director Sajid Khan decided to step down from directing the fourth installment of BO success 'Housefull'. The director tweeted a short while ago that in the "wake of the allegations & the pressure on his family" he had decided to step down from directing the film.

Actress Saloni Chopra who had tweeted her own account of being harassed by Khan has thanked Akshay Kumar for taking a tough stance against the director which led to his eventual dismissal. She also thanked Twinkle Khanna, who had also tweeted in support, and expressed regret that Khan had chosen to deflect the case instead of tendering an apology.

On Friday, Akshay Kumar put his weight behind the #MeToo campaign and had asked the producers of 'Housefull 4' to "cancel the shoot until further investigation." The franchise film, directed by Khan, has been a box-office success and has starred Kumar in the earlier versions.

The 51-year-old actor had tweeted, a day after model-actress Saloni Chopra went public detailing abuse and harassment by Sajid Khan. The actor who was away on holiday in Europe posted a tweet in which he wrote that he "will not work with any proven offenders and all those who have been subjugated to harassment should be heard and given the justice they deserve."

Kumar's wife Twinkle Khanna also took to Twitter to comment on the incident, saying, "Appalled hearing multiple incidents of harassment and it is truly horrific to hear what these women have been through. Everyone involved in Housefull needs to take a firm stance on this issue. This cannot go on."

Khanna had earlier also tweeted in support of Tanushree Dutta after her allegations against Nana Patekar who is part of the film.

Detailing her ordeal with Khan, she wrote, "This goes back to 2011...He was famous for his interview questions. He asks questions like ‘do you m*****bate?’ and ‘how many times a week?’… he also asked me if I’d ever been sexually abused, I said yes. Then he asked weird questions like if I would ever get a breast job, and talked about how sex is really a mental connection. Of course he went into a philosophical rant about our human bodies and it’s desires and how sorry he felt for people who had to go through abuse...by the end of the interview I was in tears, and I wasn’t entirely sure why. I didn’t know if it was because I felt somewhat uncomfortable around him, or because I’d opened up too much."
Meanwhile, actor Farhan Akhtar also expressed 'shock and disappointment' to read about Sajid Khan's behaviour. He wrote, 'I don’t know how but he will have to find a way to atone for his alleged actions.'
