NEW DELHI: Former India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni was dropped from Board of Control for Cricket in India's list of 27 centrally contracted players on Thursday. The contracts are from October 2019 to September 2020.

The 38-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman hasn't played international cricket since the World Cup last year. Dhoni began playing for India in 2004.

With the announcement of the news, MSD fans turned to social media to express their views. Hashtags like #ThankYouDhoni and #MSDhoni started trending on the micro-blogging site.

Some Twitter users said the contract was not indicative of Dhoni's retirement, while others just thanked the Man with the Midas Touch.

One user compared the cricketer's reach to that of Tendulkar's.

Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah were given contracts of Rs 70 million and were placed in the A+ grade by the BCCI.
