My Fastag app review: A one-stop solution with an easy-to-use interface
The app lets motorists buy FASTtags online, find offline sale locations, recharge the stickers and make payments.
Highlight: Online activation
Starting December 1, all toll payments on national highways must be made through FASTags, a sticker that uses radio frequency identification or RFID. The move aims to reduce delays at toll plazas by making them cashless.
To quicken the transition to the electronic payment mode, the road ministry, National Highway Authority of India and Indian Highways Company have launched a My FASTag app.
It allows motorists to buy FASTtags online, find offline point-of-purchase locations, recharge the stickers, and make payments and access highway helplines.
We downloaded the app (only on Android now) and tested it.
The app has two main sections - NHAI FASTag (bank-neutral) and Bank Specific FASTag.
The NHAI section offers the option for buying FASTags online or check sale locations. There is also an option to buy the stickers online via Amazon.
One can activate and recharge the FASTags purchased online – either through a NHAI prepaid wallet or through bank accounts using the unified payments interface or UPI.
Banks-specific service enables users to locate the nearest bank where they can buy the stickers and also link them with any bank.
The other services include access to list of operational toll plazas across the country, 24x7 highway toll-free hotline and banks’ helpline numbers in case anyone needs it. The app also mentions the toll charges at different highways.
The video section is barebones with just a promotional video.
All the features work flawlessly except the frequently asked questions section, which gave a continuous server error.
Overall, the app seems to be a one-stop solution for every FASTag user with an easy-to-use interface and adequately laid out menu options. But it should add the option of buying stickers at more ecommerce portals.
