Sushma Swaraj dies: Mahindra, Priti Patel remember 'Iron lady'; B-town celebs mourn the loss of a leader

Sushma Swaraj passed away on Tuesday night after suffering a cardiac arrest.

Priti Patel named Sushma Swaraj the 'Iron Lady of India' and a truly inspirational leader.
Former external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj passed away on Tuesday night after suffering a cardiac arrest. She was 67. Condolences poured in on social media for Swaraj from members of Parliament to world leaders, business tycoons, authors and Bollywood celebrities.

Mahindra and Mahindra Group chairman Anand Mahindra was one of the first few who remembered Swaraj. While sharing one of her old tweets, Mahindra paid tribute to Swaraj by calling her 'Mother India'. He also said that even now she continues to carry the affection of millions.

Biocon MD Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw expressed how devastated she was to hear of the former leader's sudden demise. She also expressed admiration for the bold and compassionate leader Swaraj was.

"I am devastated to hear the shockingly sad news of #SushmaSwaraj’s sudden demise. I deeply admired her as a tall woman political leader with a bold and compassionate personality who was so widely loved and respected. I will miss her. RIP"

Priti Patel, Secretary of State for the Home Department and Member of Parliament for Witham in Essex, named Swaraj the 'Iron Lady of India' and a truly inspirational leader.

While expressing her sadness, legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar remembered Swaraj as a selfless and sensitive soul.

Legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan, through a series of tweets, shared pictures with the former leader. He remembered Swaraj as great orator.

Actor and BJP's MP from Gurdaspur Sunny Deol paid tribute to one of the finest leaders of India on Twitter.

Captain of the Indian cricket team Virat Kohli prayed for the deceased leader's soul.

'Mission Mangal' actor Akshay Kumar remembered the dynamic leader who was admired by all.

Ayushmann Khurrana, who recently appeared in the film 'Article 15', shared one of Swaraj's tweets while paying tribute to her. The BJP leader had earlier said tweeted even if people are stuck on Mars, the Indian Embassy will be there to.

Rishi Kapoor, who is currently seeking treatment for a health condition in New York, tweeted for Swaraj.

Actor Vivek Oberoi hailed Swaraj as an 'iron lady' and a true patriot. He paid tribute to the deceased minister by calling her an inspiration for everyone.

Directors Anurag Kashyap and Karan Johar remembered Swaraj as a great parliamentarian and orator.

Actor Riteish Deshmukh called her demise a huge loss for India. While calling Swaraj an absolute patriot, he shared condolences to her family and her followers.

" A huge loss for India- An outstanding orator, an absolute patriot, a tall leader @SushmaSwaraj Ji is no more. As an Ext Affairs minister she was always accessible to every Indian who was in need of help. My deepest condolences to the family, loved ones & millions of followers."

Celebrity chef Vikas Khanna shared a picture with Swaraj. He thanked the deceased minister for letting him cook for her and for blessing her.

Cricketer-turned-politician Gautam Gambhir, through his tweet, revealed that he is deeply grieved by the loss of a leader like Swaraj. He remembered the veteran as a pillar of BJP and as the most-loved minister of all time.

Virender Sehwag, Suresh Raina and Mohammad Kaif, too, expressed grief on the loss a great leader.

A 'shocked' Sania Mirza paid tribute to the brand ambassador of the 'girl child' campaign. The Tennis ace also wrote in her tweet that she will always cherish her relationship with Swaraj.

A deeply saddened Shabana Azmi talked about her cordial relationship with Swaraj despite political differences. She also hailed the her as an articulate and sharp leader.

Other B-town celebs who remembered Swaraj as a great leader and offered condolences to the family were Swara Bhasker, Sanjay Dutt, Anil Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Huma Qureshi, Dhanush, Parineeti Chopra and Arjun Kapoor.

Calling it a 'devastating news', author Amish Tripathi paid tribute to the mother-like leader on Twitter.

He wrote, "Devastating news. #SushmaSwaraj ji has left too early. A kind, yet tough, almost Mother-like leader. I was in awe of her deep knowledge of our Texts & traditions. And the time she took to speak with anyone meeting her, despite her crazily busy schedule. 1 in a billion."
