Emails are ubiquitous today, with a constant urge to put everything on record and shun face to face conversations at all costs. This comes at a price: a waste of that precious and scarce resource called time. Adarsh Jatia, MD, Provenance Land, understands that and has clear rules to deal with the clutter that comes with communication.

"Promoters are constantly prioritising, not just at 8 in the morning but throughout the day. Every 10 minutes that you spend on something, you are not spending on something else," Jatia tells ETPanache at his office in mid-town Mumbai, adding that he doesn't spend time on email.

He explains, "The world today is too bogged down with responding to emails. Of course one is running a business and professional enough to respond to important emails. But emails are a very misused tool. People constantly copy each other, constantly send you stuff that you don't need to know. There is so much noise and clutter around you. I don't mind being that person who didn't respond to an email that is not important."

Jatia feels that it is important for people to use their time well. Email is just one example. There are others constantly jostling for your attention: Twitter, Whatsapp , Facebook. It is important to draw some lines if you must use your time.
