Suresh Raina announces baby Rio's arrival; Sachin Tendulkar, Sania Mirza, Phogat Sisters welcome 'little champ'

The sports fraternity got together to wish Jr Raina love and health.

NEW DELHI: The entire sports fraternity joined in welcoming Jr Raina after Team India cricketer Suresh Raina announced the arrival of his baby boy on Twitter.

On Monday, the left-handed batsman shared a picture of his new born with wife Priyanka Choudhary. He revealed that they have named him - Rio Raina. "May he flows beyond boundaries, bringing peace, renewal & prosperity to everyone’s life." he added.


Soon after the post, congratulatory messages started pouring in.

Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar welcomed Baby Rio Raina, and congratulated the parents.


While Sir Vivian Richards prayed the Raina children to double up their happiness, cricketer Harbhajan Singh congratulated the happy couple.



Cricketers Shikhar Dhawan, Mandeep Singh and Mohammad Kaif sent love and blessings to the little one.



Cricketer Poonam Yadav congratulated the Rainas for the newest arrival to the family.


Chennai Super Kings shared a picture of the couple with their daughter Gracia, 3, and welcomed 'Kutti Thala'. Venky Mysore, MD and CEO of Kolkata Knight Riders encouraged the young couple to 'enjoy the time with the family'.



It wasn't just the cricketers. Tennis star Sania Mirza and shuttler Saina Nehwal also congratulated the couple.



The Phogat sisters - Geeta and Babita - wished the 'baby champ' health and happiness.


Padma Shri awardee Bajrang Punia, who also won the 2018 Asian Games gold medal in wrestling, also congratulated Raina.


Other celebrities to wish the couple and welcome the baby were Comedian Kapil Sharma and Vivek Oberoi.



The 33-year-old Raina is the key cog in the batting wheel of Indian Premier League franchise Chennai Super Kings and is the second-highest run-scorer in IPL. He is the only Indian batsman to have scored centuries in both ODI and T20I World Cups. He has played 18 Tests, 226 ODIs and 78 T20Is.

He made his ODI debut in 2005 against Sri Lanka while his first game in the longest format came in 2010 against the same opponent. Raina had gone on to score a century in his maiden Test.
