A decade and a half since Motorola first debuted the Moto Razr, the second coming of the foldable phone now has a release date. It will hit shelves on February 6, 2020 for USD 1,499, more than USD 500 than the iPhone 11. The company has started accepting pre-orders from January 26.

Motorola had initially said that it would accept orders for the Razr from December 26, but had to push back the date due to demand being higher than expected. Despite missing the festive season, there was much buzz around the phone this week, when nostalgic buyers flocked to make bookings.

Pre-orders can be made on Motorola’s website, as well as at Walmart and Verizon stores. It will hit stores on February 6. But it might not be that easy to lay hands on the foldable phone due to high demand, which means that phones that have already been shipped will be rationed and distributed on a first-come-first-serve basis, with those having ordered online given preference.

The new Razr was announced in 2019, with the design retaining elements of the old phone. Instead of a flip-design with hinges, the resurrected phone will sport a foldable display. It will have a flexible 6.2-inch screen, and will run on the latest version of Android.

However, some hardware elements on the Razr are underwhelming, making it hard to justify the hefty price tag. Early reviews have hinted that the camera is below-par. The mid-range Snapdragon 710 processor is not what one expects when shelling out USD 1,499 on a premium smartphone.

The Moto Razr will be sold exclusively on Verizon in the United states, with details about partnerships with international carriers yet to be disclosed. A February release will be opportune for Motorola as it will face stiff competition in the form of the clamshell-shaped foldable phone, the Samsung Galaxy Flip, which is set to be announced on February 11.
