A couple of days after the chilling news of a rape victim from Unnao being set ablaze by her perpetrators shook the nation, several women took to Twitter to express their resentment and anger with the crumbling justice system of the country. Among those who voiced their concerns was Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty who went on a furious rant on Twitter, slamming those who commit sexual crimes against women.

The 44-year-old actress began by sharing a couple of news reports on Unnao victim who was set ablaze by the perpetrators. She also shared another story about the alleged rape and murder of a woman in West Bengal's Malda district.

Talking about the insecure position of women in the nation, Shetty wrote in one of her tweets, “the position of women in our country is in dire straits.”

Shetty went on to share her disappointment at the rape accused being set free on bail and a feeling of apathy towards the rape victims.

The mother of 7-year-old Viaan Raj Kundra, went on to say that though she is a mother of a son, she cannot come close to imagining the pain mothers of daughters feel.

Sharing the post on Instagram, Shetty tagged PM Modi, who is the brainchild behind ‘Beti Bachao’ campaign and has, on several occasions, tried to raise awareness about women’s issues. Shetty wrote, “#BetiBachao can’t just be relegated to a campaign”. “Intent isn’t enough if it can’t be put into action,” added Shetty.

The ‘Baazigar’ starlet echoed the sentiment, ‘justice delayed is justice denied’ and ended her tweet with ‘Jai Hind!’.

Several fans of the starlet supported her cause.
