Manulife has picked 49% stake in Mahindra AMC for Rs 265 crore. What does this deal bring to the table for both the Mahindras and Manulife?
Manulife is a trillion dollar company in the financial space. They operate not only in the US, Canada and Europe but also in almost 13 Asian markets including China. So they have knowledge about Asia. Manulife had an office in Mumbai 120 years ago, even before our independence. In fact, when we visited them, they showed us the photographs of those days. Those days they had issued investment securities. So, they are coming back to India after 120 years.

What kind of synergies will go into it apart from research capabilities and global expertise and decades of experience operating in emerging markets? What exactly would you be working towards? Will there be new products?
It is going to be beneficial in several ways and primarily Mahindra has a fantastic brand name and very high reputation for corporate governance and values and also very deep penetration in Indian market for over 75 years. So, there is that customer knowledge as well as distribution reach. Of course, it is a very prominent and reputed brand. Again globally, Manulife is a very well known brand and they have very good experience in Emerging Markets, particularly in Asia.
