Hinduja brothers ($15.6 billion), Pallonji Mistry ($15 billion), and Uday Kotak ($14.8 billion) were the next three on the list.

Uday Kotak’s wealth grew over $4 billion, thanks to a 39 per cent surge in the share price of Kotak Mahindra Bank in last one year. This was the first time he has secured a place among the top five.

Total wealth of the tycoons on the list shrank 8 per cent to $452 billion from a year ago. More than half of 100 persons on the list saw a decline in their wealth.

According to Forbes, more than one-third of the decline in total wealth of India’s 100 richest was due to generous Wipro’s Azim Premji, who gave away a chunk of his fortunes in March, which caused his rank to drop to 17th place from second with a net worth of $7.2 billion.
