IndiGo, Qatar Airways sign codeshare agreement

NEW DELHI: Interglobe Aviation, operator of IndiGo, announced a codeshare agreement with Qatar Airways on Thursday.

A codeshare agreement allows participating airlines to market and book tickets under their logo for the same flight. Typically, a flight is operated by one airline (technically called an "administering carrier") while seats are sold for the flight by all cooperating airlines using their own designator and flight number.

“With the sale starting from Thursday, the one-way codeshare agreement between the two carriers will enable Qatar Airways to place its code on IndiGo flights between Doha and Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad,” said IndiGo.

Qatar Airways will place its code “QR” on IndiGo operated flights between the mentioned destinations. This is the second codeshare agreement for IndiGo as part of its growth strategy for international markets, IndiGo said.

Shares of Interglobe Aviation closed at Rs 1491.90, up 1.59 per cent on BSE.

Stocks of the airline carrier have been on a losing streak lately, falling over 18 per cent in the last one month.

IndiGo Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Ronojoy Dutta said, “This is a momentous occasion for us, as we sign this codeshare agreement with one of the finest airlines in the world. This strategic alliance will not only strengthen our international operations, but also boost economic growth in India, by bringing in more traffic and heralding opportunities for trade and tourism through seamless mobility.”
