Market Now: BSE Smallcap index up; Swan Energy surges 20%

Among the 51 stocks in Nifty index, 35 were trading in the green, while 15 were in the red.

NEW DELHI: Shares of Swan Energy (up 19.98 per cent), Shiva Cement (up 19.83 per cent), Everest Industries (up 18.25 per cent) and Suven Life Sciences (up 12.15 per cent) surged over 12 per cent in the BSE Smallcap index in Monday's trade.

The S&P BSE Smallcap was trading 0.23 per cent up at 16,964 around 2 pm (IST).

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was up 54 points at 10,221, while BSE Sensex was up 166 points at 32598.

Sanwaria Consumer (up 9.93 per cent), Jaiprakash Power Ventures (up 9.89 per cent), Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) (up 9.88 per cent), Fairchem Speciality (up 9.53 per cent) and Ramco Industries (up 8.87 per cent) surged up to 10 per cent in the smallcap index.

However, Arcotech (down 19.47 per cent), Diamond Power Infrastructure (down 5.60 per cent), Ricoh India (down 4.99 per cent), Gammon India (down 4.98 per cent), TCI Express (down 4.97 per cent), GNA Axles (down 4.95 per cent) and Sri Adhikari Brothers Television Network (down 4.92 per cent) were among top losers in the index at around the same time.

Shares of JP Associates, South Indian Bank, City Union Bank, Reliance Comm, Idea Cellular, Federal Bank, Unitech, JSPL, Wipro, Bombay Dyeing, Suzlon Energy, IDFC were among most traded securities on the National Stock Exchange on Monday.
