The talk is that the applicants from the mutual fund industry are chief executives of midand small-sized asset management companies.

The race for the top position at the country’s sixth largest mutual fund UTI Fund is heating up.

Executive search firm Egon Zehnder, which will shortlist the candidates for the post of managing director of UTI soon, has received several applications.

The talk is that the applicants from the mutual fund industry are chief executives of midand small-sized asset management companies. UTI’s acting CEO, Imtaiyazur Rahman, who is in charge of the fund after the exit of Leo Puri, is also a contender.

Sources said none of the CEOs of larger mutual funds have applied to become the UTI chief. The buzz, however, is that shareholders are keen to give the post to someone from within the industry.
