Sensex gains 100 points, Nifty nears 11,950 amid firm global cues

Among Sensex stocks, Bharti Airtel was the biggest gainer advancing 3 per cent.

Nifty Realty was the biggest sectoral gainer, up 2.36 per cent to 282 led by DLF that surged 4 per cent to Rs 225.95 and Oberoi Realty that added 2.32 per cent to Rs 516.50.
NEW DELHI: Domestic equity markets opened with gains on Monday tracking the rise in Asian markets. However, gains were capped by conflicting commentary on the US-China trade deal.

The shuffle in Sensex stocks also helped sentiments on D-Street as BSE said laggards like Tata Motors, YES Bank and Vedanta will no longer be part of the benchmark.

BSE flagship Sensex was up 93 points at 40,453 while its NSE counterpart Nifty was up 30 points at 11,944. Broader market indices traded in tandem with their headline peers as Nifty Midcap advanced 0.18 per cent to 16,897. Nifty Smallcap was up 0.11 per cent to 5,707. Nifty500 gained 0.23 per cent to 9,702.

Nifty Media was the biggest loser on NSE among all sectors, down 0.75 per cent at 1963. It was dragged by losses in heavyweight such as Zee Entertainment that was down 2.83 per cent at Rs 347.95.

Nifty Realty was the biggest sectoral gainer, up 2.36 per cent to 282 led by DLF that surged 4 per cent to Rs 225.95 and Oberoi Realty that added 2.32 per cent to Rs 516.50.

Among Sensex stocks, Bharti Airtel was the biggest gainer advancing 2.79 per cent to Rs 433.15 while Tata Steel, up 2.36 per cent at Rs 409.05 and Sun Pharma, up 1.92 per cent at Rs 460.70.

Globally, Asian shares made guarded gains on Monday as investors dared to hope for some progress in the endless Sino-US trade dispute, while the outperformance of recent US economic data gave the dollar a leg up on its peers.

MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan bounced 0.8 per cent, after losing 0.4 per cent last week. Japan's Nikkei firmed 0.9 per cent, while Australian stocks rose 0.5 per cent and Shanghai blue chips 0.4 per cent.

E-Mini futures for the S&P 500 added 0.3 per cent, while EUROSTOXX 50 futures gained 0.6 per cent.
