Sensex, Nifty extend gain for 3rd day; GMR Infra, Infosys jump
With a rise of nearly 5%, IT major Infosys topped the list of gainers in the Nifty50 pack.
With a rise of nearly 5 per cent, IT major Infosys topped the list of gainers in the Nifty50 pack. It was followed by NTPC (up 4.06 per cent), Coal India (up 3.80 per cent), Vedanta (up 2.32 per cent) and BPCL (up 2.12 per cent).
Infosys advanced on Thursday after the company said that the board of directors will consider a proposal for buyback of equity shares at its meeting to be held on Saturday.
In contrast, Cipla, ACC, Maruti Suzuki, Kotak Mahindra Bank and Aurobindo Pharma plunged between 1.40 per cent and 2.80 per cent.
Shares of GMR Infrastructure hogged limelight after the Supreme Court of India allowed Delhi International Airport (DIAL) to use airport land for commercial purposes. The scrip settled 13.41 per cent up at Rs 18.60.
Karthikraj Lakshmanan, Senior Fund Manager – Equities, BNP Paribas Mutual Fund said, “Stocks across the globe traded with caution as uncertainty surrounding internal US policy continued to weigh on investor sentiment despite receding North Korean tensions.”
Sectorwise, the BSE IT, BSE TECk and BSE Telecom index gained 1.84 per cent, 1.79 per cent and 1.54 per cent, respectively. On the other hand, BSE Auto, Bankex and Healthcare slipped 0.72 per cent, 0.71 per cent and 0.51 per cent, respectively.
Asian peers mostly ended in red. Hang Seng and Nikkei slipped 0.24 per cent and 0.14 per cent, respectively.
