A massive fire swept through a factory in Anaj Mandi area of north Delhi on Sunday morning, leaving 43 labourers dead and many others injured, police said. A total of 59 people were inside the factory operating from a residential area when the blaze broke out, they said. BJP lawmaker Manoj Tiwari on Sunday visited the Delhi fire incident site and announced financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to families of those who lost their lives and Rs 25,000 for the injured. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal visited a factory in Anaj Mandi area, where a massive fire broke out in the early hours of Sunday, and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh to the family members of the deceased. The chief minister also announced a compensation of Rs 1 lakh to those injured in the blaze that claimed at least 43 lives. He said "It is a very sad incident. I have ordered a magisterial inquiry into it. Compensation Rs 10 lakhs each to be given to families of those dead and Rs 1 lakh each to those injured. The incident that claimed 43 live and left 16 injured brought back tragic memories of the Uphaar cinema hall blaze in 1997.

The incident came days after 43 people were killed in a massive fire in a four-storey building housing illegal manufacturing units in north Delhi's congested Anaj Mandi area on December 8. Nine people have been killed in the incident, the official said.
