The appreciation of the Brazilian’s Real and Argentina’s Peso will also help Indian exporters, they said.
“There is a good demand for Indian buffalo meat in the global market with drop in exports from Brazil and Argentina,” said Sirajudin Quereshi, MD at Hind Agro. “We are in touch with buyers in Indonesia, Egypt, Malaysia and Vietnam and contracts are being signed. Sales in July have finally picked up compared to the last three months.” He added that the opening of animal markets and reduction in freight charges will help the exporters.
A number of processing units in Brazil and Argentina also continued to be closed due the outbreak of the Covid 19, said exporters.
Exporters are seeking benefits under the Merchandise Exports from India Scheme (MEIS).
“Since 2011, we have not got any subsidy under the MEIS, but in the current scenario, we are hopeful that the government will look into this to enable us to be competitive globally,” said Fauzan Alavi, spokesperson of All India Meat and Livestock Exporters Association. The government should look at the contribution of the meat export sector due to the direct benefit to farmers who are keen to sell their surplus livestock stocks, he added.
In June, the association had said that buffalo meat exports have suffered a loss of Rs 5,300 crore since the lockdown began in March.
Exporters said freight rates for shipping had increased by 7% to 10% in recent months. The cost of the livestock too has increased by 25% as animal markets continued to be closed, they said.
Buffalo meat exports from India in 2018-19 were 6.5% less against the previous year at 1.15 million tonnes and valued at Rs 22,661 crore.

GOI must help the meat exporters. Even Southern States and West Bengal where there is no ban on the Cow Slaughter should be allowed export beef. Nation first , cow later !

That is another front to win over the outside markets. We are sure Chines can't compete with India in that sector. As regards to Australian buffalo meat export- they don't come near Indian figures. Entire Africa and Part of ME has the best customer base of Indian Buffalo meat. Hope all exporters should avail this change to earn for themselves and the Country.
